The next day we decided to go to the city of

The city is located 112 miles (180 km) away from Denali. We got there in 2 hours. Fairbanks is the main economic and cultural center of the state. Wood industry is the main manufacturing industry. Gold mining takes place near the city. There is also an international airport. And there’s a final point of the pipeline.
The city of

was founded in the early 20th century due to the Klondike Gold Rush, and named after the Indiana senator of that time Charles Warren Fairbanks who later became the US vice president.

It was designed for oil pumping from the Prudhoe Bay in the north of Alaska, in the port of Valdez city in the south. It crosses Alaska from north to south; the pipeline length is 800 miles (1288 km). It consists of crude oil pipeline, 12 pumping stations, several hundred miles supply lines and Valdez terminal in the city. The pipeline is one of the biggest among similar facilities. It belongs to the "Alyeska Pipeline Service Company".

Passing through a pipe, it makes a squealing noise which is how it got its name. There’s an old model in the first photo, and a new model of the “pig” is the second photo.

, but we were short of time, so we just stopped to watch and wave at a departing ship.
