Cartagena. Colombia.

3 minutes read • October 19th, 2015

Cartagena

is one of the most popular cities in Colombia. It is located on the Caribbean coast of the country.

Cartagena

was founded by the Spanish in 1533, in the midst of searching for the treasure of the Incas and other South American peoples. The city served as a transit point for export to Europe of the looted treasures. It was visited by almost all the famous pirates of the Caribbean.
The city itself was plundered five times. The most successful and brazen robber became a famous English pirate and explorer, sir Francis Drake. He managed to get from Cartagena unprecedented in those days ransom of ten million pesos, making Queen Elizabeth pretty pleased.
In 1980 the historic monuments of Cartagena have been declared UNESCO world heritage sites.

Such sculptures can be found in

Cartagena

in large numbers.
We only had 3 hours in the morning to see Cartagena in a hurry before the flight. During this time we had to explore all the city attractions and, of course, find the souvenir magnets on the fridge! But you already know that story...

Progress is stepping through the country! To activate the green light at the crosswalk, you just need to put the hand on the sensor.

One of the main attractions of Cartagena are balconies with many growing flowers.

Another highlight of Cartagena is brightly dressed women selling fruit at the Central lanes of the city.

In the center of the city, you'll find a wide variety of sculptures.

Missionary is converting the native to faith.

Is this Francis Drake?

Finally, the police car.
