Conch Republic - Key West. Florida. USA. P.1.

The Conch Republic is a 'virtual state'. We were there twice in the past two years. I really liked

Key West

. It's a nice place.

Here's their flag.

As I've already said, Key West is one of the ports we had visited before.
I tried to choose a route without repetitions but did not succeed, had to make a bit of a compromise.
Especially because I liked

Key West city a lot

and, fortunately, the first time we didn't have time to visit "everything"...
Moreover, the first time we weren't there on a cruise because we came from the land side and early in the morning. That was, certainly, better...
However.
Swimming to the island was also interesting. There is generally a pleasant coastline - the islands come one by one, it's beautiful...

So. We are swimming closer...

It's not Key West but a small island nearby...

And this is

Key West Florida

.

I would recommend Key West as one of the most pleasant cruise ports. It is very convenient there! The ship stands literally in the center of the city.

There is no promenade there, but it's very convenient to walk around the port.

The island is small, you don't even need to use public transport, you can walk to any place.
But if there is no desire to tramp on your two feet, there is enough of different means of transportation...

We just walked around the small streets. We tried to walk away from the port, because, although, everything is close there, most tourists walk around the nearby streets and they don't get too far away...

It seems a lot of expats and downshifters live in Key West. Hemingway definitely was not the first and the last one there.
I like such small houses. I would live there for a month or two with pleasure.

Is that a cat's house?

There are a lot of cats.
From a six-legged polydactyl by Hemingway to a regular outdoor kind.

By the way, we didn't get to the Museum either of the times we were there. Last time nobody wanted to join me, and this time, we decided to go there on the way back. Due to lack of time, we didn't go there (and I'm glad, another reason to come back there a couple more times).
Just check out the photo...
Can you see the cat? I bet it's the six-legged one...

And this one we met at the Museum, which ... uh... is called the Winter White House
There's something wrong with the cat's nose, hmm...

Key West was quite popular among American presidents as a vacation destination. Harry Truman lived there once, and Roosevelt, and Eisenhower, and John Kennedy with Jimmy Carter...
Museum, by the way, is free, but we had to buy souvenirs to support the cause...
Here is the Museum.

Inside:

Just when the elections were held:

There is a nice park around the house.

There are a lot of them in Key West. All the surroundings there are generally like the jungle!
Look at those trees!
