The British Overseas Territory was hit by the Category 5 hurricane for the first time ever. It brought strong wind with a speed of up to 175 mph and 20ft waves. Electricity and water production went down.
The catastrophic disaster also reached Haiti that still hasn’t recovered from Hurricane Matthew (2016) and an earthquake (2010). Fallen trees, flooded streets, destroyed houses, blocked roads – here’s what Irma brought.
Cuba and the Bahamas are getting ready to meet the deadly disaster.
Cruise lines continue to re-route ships and change departure dates, as well as cancel certain sailing. On 9/07/2017, the companies canceled three more cruises: Norwegian Sky (Norwegian Cruise Line) won’t leave the port of Miami on September 11, while the Carnival Cruise Line’s Splendor and Liberty won’t depart on their sailings scheduled for September 9 and September 10 respectively. You can find the list of the cruise cancellations here.
Besides, Royal Caribbean International decided to use Enchantment of the Seas to evacuate the company’s employees and their families from endangered Miami. The liner was scheduled to depart on the cruise on Friday; however, the company canceled this sailing. Now the ship will leave the port on Friday at noon heading towards the calm waters. She will return to the port of Miami as soon as the threat has passed.
