Category 5 Hurricane Irma is expected to get to the northern Caribbean till the midweek. At the end of this week or at the beginning of the next one, the same devastating scenario may affect the Gulf or East coasts of the USA. Residents of the endangered territories were warned about the possible life-threatening conditions and are preparing now to meet the danger.

Hurricane Irma is named the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in the recorded history. It forced the companies operating cruises in the region to change certain itineraries and cancel sailings.
Norwegian Cruise Line announced on 9/05/2017 it would return its Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Escape homeported in Miami back to not run into a gale. Besides, the company also decided on several cruise cancellations: 2 liners that were going to depart on 9/08/2017 and 9/092017 won't leave the port.
Royal Caribbean International announced on 9/05/2017 it cancels two Bahamas cruises that were to start on 9/08/2017 on Majesty of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas. RCI also changed itineraries of the liners expected to sail in the endangered region. Currently, they will take travelers to the Western Caribbean.
Carnival Cruise Line took the same actions as RCI and re-routed liners heading towards the Eastern Caribbean (Carnival Glory, Carnival Magic, and Carnival Splendor) into the Western Caribbean. The company also canceled the following cruises: Carnival Liberty - 9/07/2017; Carnival Victory - 9/08/2017.
The RCI’s and Carnival’s ships switched to the Western Caribbean and were joined by the liners of MSC Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line that announced several cruise itinerary changes.
You can find the list of the cruise cancellations caused by Irma here.

We remind you that Hurricane Harvey that just recently caused horrible devastation in Texas was listed the Category 4 hurricane. The last Category 5 hurricane – Matthew – happened at the end of September – beginning of October 2016. Heavy rains caused landslides and flooding, strong winds downed trees and power lines. Roads and bridges in Haiti were destroyed isolating tens of thousands people. Matthew destroyed many houses on its way and killed more than 600 people. More than 120 people were announced missing. The total damage - $15.1 billion.

Please, track the information concerning changes in sailings on the companies’ official websites! We will closely watch as the situation changes and update you as often as possible.
Please, stay safe wherever you are!
