Italy. Pompeii. Beginning

Capi4ca • 4 minutes read • June 8th, 2016

Pompeii

is an ancient Roman city that was covered with a multimeter layer of ash after the eruption of

Vesuvius

on August 24, 79 AD.
So the city was virtually canned. During the excavations, it turned out that everything has remained: streets, houses, furnishings.
There was a strong smell of hydrogen sulphide before the eruption  - and this is a precursor of the eruption, and the majority of residents managed to leave the city. But about 2000 people were killed.

Currently,

Pompeii

is an open air museum. It's included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Volcano eruption happened in 79 AD, and a part of the city wall was discovered only in 1592. Excavations began in 1748. And not everything has been excavated still.
We are following our guide.
