Marigot - The French Capital of Saint Martin

Anich • 3 minutes read • November 21st, 2016
Today I am going to review my trip to

Marigot,

the French capital of the island.

Of course, the "capital" sound's pretty dramatic. The town is home to just 5,700 residents, according to Wikipedia.
The main attraction of the city is old Fort Louis.

Here's a view of

Marigot

and its harbor, from the hill.

We walked up to the fort.

Look - the coast of the island is so flat.

Here's Fort St. Louis.
It was built in 1767.

And this is a small industrial zone in

Saint Martin

:)

Here's Marigot in all its glory.
It was only 9 a.m., but the heat was already impossible.

We walked down.

Here's the waterfront.

And here are several houses and streets.

I walked closer to the church.

Here's a battered house.

You can also see brighter and more modern samples.

This house was also in needs of repair :)

I can't say that Marigot left any strong impressions. I actually preferred Philipsburg, on the Dutch side of the island much more.
