1polar-day-in-svalbard.jpgI want to tell you about the polar day in ultra-high latitudes.

is located so close to the pole that the polar day and polar night are so pronounced that it became of the main reasons tourists travel to that region. The polar day on Spitsbergen lasts from April 20th to August 22nd. The sun is very high all day and it’s blindingly shining in the blue sky even at midnight without the slightest hint of sunset paints. Sometimes in summer, the “night” sun may be brighter than the “day” one.
The polar night lasts for a short period of time and it is not as pronounced. However, the real polar night is long, totally dark, and lasts in the central

from October 28 to February 14. During this period, the sun does not rise above the horizon.
Trom December 10th to mid-January it is absolutely dark during the central polar night.
Mathematically, the first time the sun should appear over the horizon at the latitude

Longyearbyen is

in mid-February, but due to the high mountains, the locals actually see the sun for the first time later in March.
It was 1:30 a.m. The decks of the ship were flooded with dazzling sunlight!
