is the very south-western point of continental part of the USA. Further to the southwest, there is only Hawaii. The city is located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean and borders Mexico. It is almost one metropolis together with a border town Tijuana. A border checkpoint between them is considered to be the busiest in the world. The nearest big city to the north is Los Angeles. It takes 2 hours to get there by car.
Temperature is 68 degrees (20 degrees Celsius) almost the entire year, the length of the beaches is 70 miles. San Diego is considered to be the most comfortable city to live in California.
Midway is the first heavy American aircraft carrier, the leader of Midway class. It participated in the bombardment of North Vietnam during the Vietnamese conflict, and it also served in the Operation Desert Storm in 1991. It was a part of the United States Navy for 40 years and was decommissioned on April 11, 1992. It has been a ship-museum in San Diego (
) since 1998.
A system of express tramways operates in the city. It is officially called San Diego Trolley. It opened in 1981 and became the first modern tramway system in the USA after a long period of decay of trolleys since the 30s.
The first line opened on July 26, 1981, and became the first, modern light-rail transit system in California.There are only three lines called Blue, Orange and Green. Tramway lines of San Diego are on the sixth place in the USA by the number of people using this kind of transport. At first, there were only Siemens-Duewag U2 cabs on the route. Those cabs were constructed in Germany.

Vicinities of the hotel where we stayed. Star of India is the oldest ship afloat in the world. It was built in 1863 on the Isle of Man. It now belongs to the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Balboa Park is located a few minutes from the city center. It is known as one of the most romantic and impressive city parks in the USA. There are 15 museums in the park including Arts Museum, Aviation Museum, Anthropologic Museum, Art Galleries. It is named after famous Spanish traveler and researcher Vasco Nunez de Balboa. In 1977 this park was proclaimed to be a National Historical Landmark. It is governed by the city department of parks and recreation. We visited Aviation Museum and walked around the park. This is Bauhinia in bloom.
