Strolling The Streets of Riga

Gian Luka • 4 minutes read • November 9th, 2016
Dear friends, let's take a walk through the streets of

Riga

. This is one of the most amazing cities I have ever seen and I will try to show it to you. City has miraculously absorbed the medieval antiquity, wealth and poverty of the times of the Russian Empire, the Soviet past and modern trends. I would describe Riga as beauty and poverty in one bottle.
The beautiful

Dome Cathedral

emphasizes the ancientness of the city.

It's very clean and tidy in Riga.

Roads are smooth and neat. Drivers are calm. You can see the modern buildings in the distance. After all, it's the 21st century. It's great that these buildings are constructed on the other bank and they do not spoil the historic center.

There are a lot of neat old houses in

Riga

.

It is very unusual to see such houses in the center of the European capital in the 21st century.

You can feel the rich knightly past of the city in the Old Town!

I really liked lanes in Riga.

A lot of houses have their own history. For example, here are interesting houses of Riga. They are called the "Three Brothers". Green house on the left was built in 1718. Yellow house - in 1646.

White house was built around the year 1490.

Riga has very beautiful architecture.

I wonder how many different events these houses have come through.

For example, PETER I WAS HERE - he stopped in this house. That's a good marketspeak, as for me ;)

Riga has many interesting and tasty restaurants. You can read about its cuisine here - Tasty Riga

And here's the famous courtyard... This is the place were the Soviet Sherlock Holmes was filmed. 221 Baker Street was in the building on the left.

Streets of Riga offer fantastic views.

And numerous old arches of Riga - it's something incredible.

Besides the fact that the city is clean, we met a lot of different art objects. For example, bicycles on the trees. The whole park. It's creatively different.

But as soon as you drive a little away from the Old Town... You immediately meet some old wooden house next to the construction of the time of the Republic of Latvia.
