The Dutch village of Volendam, a fishing village with an authentic windmill and a great seafood restaurant:

The bus services in

are comfortable and fast:

At the entrance to the village visitors are met by the iconic windmill:

The blades of the windmill have been chained down rendering it inactive. The blade themselves are covered with some form of metal:

A canal has been dug underneath the windmill turning it into a water mill:

Volendam was once the main fishing port in Holland - the monument below is dedicated to those glorious times:

The village courtyard below is how the whole village looks, with similar townhouses painted in a variety of colors:

A local park, complete with a soccer field and slides. There is also a water park nearby:

A traditional dinner; potatoes, smoked salmon, mackerel,  smoked eel and North Sea shrimp:

...and, of course, the famous Dutch herring!

There are a lot of sculptures not far from the restaurant:

Some look similar to the scultures in Oslo

Walking through the village:

Everything is clean and beautiful:

Narrow streets, tiled roofs:

There are a lot of restaurants on the promenade:

Fans near one of the restaurants. The village has its own football club, 'Volendam', founded in 1920:

The Dutch watch football outside, with their beer and the other fans:

Local police officers stand watch:

And sometimes join in!
