Walking Around Eilat

Nefer • 3 minutes read • August 24th, 2016
Previously, this place was called Umm Rash-Rash, and now, it is called

Eilat

.
The State of Israel was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, when the war for independence began. The last operation of that war was called "Ovda". Now, this is the name of the International Airport near Eilat. Umm Rash-Rash was conquered without any shots from the soldiers of the vanguard, who came here over the simultaneously rough and smooth Negev Desert, hoisting the blue and white flag up. It happened in March 1949. I heard that the flag was made of a bed sheet strips and the Shield of David were painted with ordinary ink. Now, there is a monument dedicated to the history of the liberation war near the "Mall Hayam" shopping center. It was erected in February 1996.

There were so many cool, brightly colored fish in Eilat, just across the street from the shopping center!

Just look, Jordan is so close. The coastline of Eilat is short, we even reached the Egyptian border.
